SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Sam Alcorn of Lewisburg was named news services manager at Susquehanna University, effective Monday, January 22.

He replaces Betse Humphrey who resigned her position in October.

Alcorn comes to Susquehanna from Dow Jones News Services where he worked in a variety of positions over 17 years. As a reporter, he covered the international debt markets, Federal Reserve and U.S. economy from New York City, Washington, D.C., Toronto, and London. He also worked as a news editor and deputy managing editor of a real-time international news agency. While at Dow Jones, he served as senior newsman on an Internet development project.

He has also worked as a reporter and editor at The Trenton (N.J.) Times and the Daily Observer of Toms River, N.J.

Alcorn has also contributed freelance stories to a variety of publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, USA Today and Travel-Holiday. His book, "The World Is Yours: A Guide to International Radio Listening," was published in 1985 by Gilfer Associates of Park Ridge, N.J.

A graduate of Glassboro State College (Rowan University), he holds a bachelor's degree in communications.
