SELINSGROVE, Pa. - A one-week advanced writing workshop for older high school students who have writing experience and wish to enter an intensive, small-group workshop to improve fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction writing skills will be held at Susquehanna University July 8-14.
"After 13 years of workshops for high school students in poetry, fiction, screen-writing, creative nonfiction, and journalism, this summer marks an exciting shift," says Gary Fincke, professor of English, workshop coordinator and director of The Writers' Institute at the University.
"The workshops are still for talented high school students in poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction, but because we now require portfolios and have limited the number of spaces available, we hope to attract an even more outstanding group of students from throughout the United States," says Fincke.
Students in the 11th and 12th grades are invited, through screenings of their work, to participate in workshops directed by the creative writing faculty of the University and at least two visiting, nationally recognized writers.
Workshop space is limited to about 12 students to permit close supervision and individual conferencing.
Students will live on campus for the week.
