SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Ten new faculty will take their places in the classrooms and seven new staff members will settle into their offices this fall on the campus of Susquehanna University.

Berneice Brownell joins the faculty as an assistant professor of education and academic department head. Brownell comes to Susquehanna from the Mendham Borough (N.J.) School District where she was a superintendent. She earned a doctorate in educational leadership at Lehigh University, certification in educational administration from East Stroudsburg University, certification in educational supervision from Jersey City State College, a master's degree from the College of St. Rose, and a bachelor's from the State University of New York at Albany.

Christine L. Cooper has been appointed associate professor of management. A tenured associate business professor at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, Newfoundland, Canada, she holds a master's degree and doctorate from Ohio State University, and a bachelor's degree from Elizabethtown College.

Catherine Cymone Fourshey joins Susquehanna University as assistant professor of history. She comes from the University of California - Los Angeles where she earned the doctorate master's degree in African history and bachelor's degree in political science.

Jeffrey A. Graham has been appointed assistant professor of mathematical sciences. He earned a doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a master's degree from Texas Tech University, and a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University. He comes to Susquehanna from Western Carolina University where he was an assistant professor.

Karen Holmberg has accepted the position of assistant professor of English. She holds a doctorate in English and creative writing from the University of Missouri - Columbia, master's degrees from the University of California - Irvine and University of Southern California, and a bachelor's degree from Middlebury College. Her book, The Perseids: Poems, won the 2000 Vassar Miller Prize in Poetry.

J. Andrew Hubbell joins the faculty as assistant professor of English. He arrives at Susquehanna from the University of Maryland - College Park where he earned a doctorate and master's degree in English literature. His bachelor's degree is from Gettysburg College.

Lynn Palermo has been appointed visiting assistant professor of French. She holds a doctorate in French from Pennsylvania State University, a master's degree from the University of Delaware, and a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University.

James J. Pomykalski has accepted the position of assistant professor of information systems. He comes to Susquehanna from James Madison University where he was an assistant professor of computer science and integrated science and technology. He holds a doctorate from the University of Virginia, a master's degree from Purdue University, and a bachelor's degree from St. Norbert College.

David W. Schweider joins the faculty as assistant professor of political science. He was visiting assistant professor at the University of Illinois from which he received a doctorate in political science. He earned a master's degree from the University of Iowa and bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

Stephen A. Waratuke joins the faculty as a post-doctorate fellow in chemistry. He holds degrees from Purdue University and the University of Pittsburgh and served as graduate research instructor at Purdue.

Joining Susquehanna's administrative staff are Francine Ashby, director of the Susquehanna University Fund; James Black, director of tutorial services; Meghan Cadwallader, assistant director of admissions; Andrew Dunlap, counselor; Thomas Edmonds, assistant director of the campus center and conference coordinator; Carol Handlan, associate director of financial aid; Raushanah Kareem, admissions counselor; Christopher J. Praul, public services librarian; and David Weisbord, admissions counselor.
