SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) - The Sixth Annual WQSU-FM Bluegrass Concert will be held Sunday, April 13, in Susquehanna University's Weber Chapel Auditorium. Doors open at 1 p.m. with a $5 admission fee. The first act takes the stage at 2 p.m.
Hosted by "Derek the Dude" and "Big Trace," disc jockeys for WQSU's weekly bluegrass shows, the concert will feature the bands Mountain Road Bluegrass, Stained Grass Window, Fiddle for Fun and Gospel Harmony.
"All four groups are great," says David Pearce, host of WQSU's Pure As Stone Country Music Jamboree.
Highlighting the concert is the rare left-handed banjo picker of Gospel Harmony, a local group of musicians back by popular demand, and the young musicians of Fiddle for Fun. The group features a 14-year-old who is the four-time state fiddle champion in three states and his 16-year-old brother, the reigning banjo champion in two states.
"If anybody wants to have a great time, bluegrass music is pure fun," says Pearce, who helped organize the event.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the WQSU-FM Summerthon campaign, which raises money for the station's summer operating expenses. Non-commercial WQSU 88.9 is the third largest college radio station in Pennsylvania. It operates with a radiated power of 12,000 watts and can be heard within a 70-mile radius of Selinsgrove.
