SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) - Jay Woodruff, assistant managing editor for Entertainment Weekly, will read from his work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Susquehanna University's Degenstein Center Theater. Part of The Writers' Institute's Visiting Writers Series, the event is free and open to the public.

Recently promoted from senior editor to assistant managing editor of Entertainment Weekly, Woodruff oversees the magazine's news coverage and bonus features.

His fiction has appeared in The Atlantic, and most recently, his essay, "Sea of Tranquility," was published in Esquire. He is the author of Conversations with Robert Coles and A Piece of Work: Five Writers Discuss Their Revisions. He was awarded the Lyndhurst Prize in 1990.

Before his reading, Woodruff will visit Susquehanna students in the editing and publishing class for a question and answer session. In addition, he will judge the students' writing for awards in exceptional writing in the literary magazine, RiverCraft. Formerly the on-campus magazine, The Susquehanna Review, RiverCraft will debut as a national undergraduate publication during Woodruff's reading.

Woodruff is the last of nine writers scheduled to read at Susquehanna during the 2002-2003 school year as part of the Visiting Writers Series sponsored by The Writers' Institute and funded, in part, by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. #vk/3934#
