SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) – Michael Waters, author of seven collections of poetry, will read from his work as part of the Visiting Writers Series at Susquehanna University on Monday, Feb. 21. The reading begins at 7:30 p.m. in Isaacs Auditorium of Seibert Hall. Sponsored by the Writers Institute at Susquehanna University, the event is free and open to the public.
Waters’ most recent book is Parthenopi: New and Selected Poems (2001). His other collections of poetry include: Green Ash, Red Maple, Black Gum (1997); Bountiful (1992); The Burden Lifters (1989); Anniversary of the Air (1985); and Not Just Any Death (1979). With Michaela Moscaliuc he co-translated Death Searches for You a Second Time by Romanian poet Carmelia Leonte (2003). His poems have appeared in Poetry, American Poetry Review, Rolling Stone, Yale Review, Kenyon Review, Southern Review, Gettysburg Review, and Ploughshares. His awards include a Fellowship in Creative Writing from the National Endowment for the Arts, several Individual Artist Awards from the Maryland Sate Arts Council, and three Pushcart Prizes. He was lead judge for the 2004 National Book Awards.
Waters currently teaches English at Salisbury University, and is in residence this semester at Bucknell University. He also teaches in the New England College Master of Fine Arts Program in Poetry, the Catskill Poetry Workshop, the Writers’ Center at Chautauqua, and the Prague Seminars.
Waters is the fourth of six writers scheduled to read at Susquehanna during the 2004-2005 school year as part of the Visiting Writers Series. On March 23, nonfiction writer Rachel Simon will visit the university.
