SELINSGROVE, ( Pa. ) - Elementary school children can get a taste of college life this summer during Susquehanna University's Second Annual Summer Kids' College. The summer camp is open to all students who have completed grades 2-5. It is designed to challenge campers and develop creativity, critical thinking and cooperative learning skills through a series of high-interest, complex topics.

The Kids' College will be held from Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20. Campers may choose a two-session or three-session workshop package. The two-session package is $125 per student and will include the workshops "Around the World in Five Days" and "Mystery Mania." The three-session package will also include these two workshops, along with a third titled "Creativity Gone Wild!" The cost of the three-session package is $175 per student.

In "Creativity Gone Wild!," students learn how to develop and extend their creativity by applying fluent, flexible, original thinking skills to a variety of age-appropriate challenges. Sessions for campers who have completed grades 4 and 5 will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. daily. Students who have completed grades 2 and 3 will attend the workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. throughout the week.

"Around the World in Five Days" is a simulated travel experience that teaches students about the everyday lives and customs of other cultures. Hands-on activities will introduce campers to traditional crafts, local cuisine and the uniqueness of people throughout the world. Students who have completed grades 2 and 3 will attend the workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. each day, while students who have completed grades 4 and 5 will attend from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

"Mystery Mania" will transform campers into crime-scene investigators. Acting as detectives working a simulated crime scene, students will conduct hands-on forensic science tests to experience real-life applications of science and the rewards of scientific investigation. Campers who have completed grades 2 and 3 will attend the workshop from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. daily. Sessions for students who have completed grades 4 and 5 will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

All sessions will be held on the campus of Susquehanna University . Early drop-off is available between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for a fee of $15 per child. Due to the interactive nature of the activities, sessions are limited to 15 campers each.
