SELINSGROVE, ( Pa. ) – The Arlin M. Adams Center for Law and Society at Susquehanna University will host “The State of the Susquehanna River,” featuring alumni who specialize in environmental sciences. Presented as part of this year's university theme, “Water,” the event will be held October 6 during Homecoming/Alumni Weekend. The program, which begins at 12:30 p.m. in Isaacs Auditorium of Seibert Hall, is free and open to the public.

This report on the Susquehanna River will be presented by four Susquehanna University alumni. Among the featured speakers will be Terry Bossert '68, an environmental law attorney with Post & Schell in Harrisburg, Pa., and former chief legal officer for Pennsylvania 's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). He will discuss the laws impacting the state of the river.

Michael Smith '79, who manages the Moshannon District Office of DEP's Bureau of District Mining Operations, will discuss the impact of acid mine drainage on the river. Fred Lubnow '88 will speak about the effects of nutrient runoff on the river. He is the director of aquatic programs at Princeton Hydro, an environmental and engineering consulting company in New Jersey.

Rounding out the program will be Anthony Buda '98, a research hydrologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service in University Park, Pa. He will address the river's ability to adequately supply water to the region.
