"LAWNCHAIR BUDDHIST" TO READ FROM HIS WORKS
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - A National Endowment for the Arts fellowship-winning writer whose interests range from short stories to nonfiction about Buddhism and Internet culture will read in Susquehanna University's Greta Ray Lounge, Monday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. Dinty Moore, who currently teaches at Penn State-Altoona, is the author of The Accidental Buddhist, a book described by Publisher's Weekly as a "hilarious and sometimes irreverent look at Buddhism" and "a perfect primer for the budding Buddhist." Moore was a 1992 recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in fiction writing. Moore has also written The Emperor's Virtual Clothes: The Naked Truth about Internet Culture and Toothpick Men, a collection of short stories. The San Jose Mercury News said of Moore's book on Internet culture, "Moore... is far and away the best pure writer of the Wired School. He has some Net smarts, but also wit and wisdom, two qualities sorely missing from most Net culture books." Moore has had fiction published in The Georgia Review, The Iowa Review, The Southern Review, and numerous other literary magazines, and non-fiction published in the New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia City Paper. Moore describes himself as "a writer, teacher, editor, human being and lawnchair Buddhist." The reading is partially sponsored by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. #bp/bh/2032#
