Balonis is the plan administrator for the university’s employee benefits programs. She provides eligible employees with a review of the university’s benefits, oversees their enrollments and assists in the resolution of benefits-related issues. She also works with vendors/carriers to enhance existing benefits and/or implement new benefits. Balonis is responsible for administering state- and federally mandated programs such as COBRA and FMLA in compliance with the regulations set forth by the Department of Labor.
Balonis manages the process of hiring employees, including background screening and new employee orientation. She provides data for wage/salary and benefits surveys, including IPEDS, CUPA and AAUP. Balonis serves as the university’s HIPAA privacy official.
Before joining the Office of Human Resources and Risk Management, Balonis worked as an administrative assistant in the Office of Communications, where she was responsible for event advertising, Web postings within the department, and the biweekly employee newsletter; oversaw the production of the printed Convocation and Commencement programs; and handled general office duties.
Balonis is a member of the national Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest association devoted to professional human resource management, as well as the local SHRM chapter. She has achieved the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation by the HR Certification Institute, the credentialing affiliate of SHRM. Balonis is also the designated member for the university on the North Central Pennsylvania Public Transportation Taskforce.
