September 11, 2001

The meeting was shortened due to the events earlier in the day.
I. Introductions
II. Job Opportunity
Center for Career Services is looking for a peer career counselor.
  • It is voluntary and requires about 2 hours of your time a week.
  • It involves critiquing resumes and a "painless" training session.
  • If you are interested contact Nancy Westfield (westfield@susqu.edu) in the Center for Career Services.
III. Elections -
Elections need to be held for the positions of VP, Secretary, Treasurer, and Webmaster/mistress.
  • VP duties include making contacts and running meetings when the President can't be there,
  • Secretary duties include taking minutes and sending them,
  • Treasurer duties involve keeping track of what little money we do have,
  • Webmaster/mistress duties include updating our webpage.
Here are the nominees so far:

  • Treasurer: Erin Smith

Elections will be held at the next meeting (Tuesday, September 18th).

September 18, 2001

I. Discussed Mental Health Awareness Week
  • We need to get on this in order to hold it around the same time we did last year
  • Will be sponsored by Psych Club and Psi Chi
  • Be thinking about topics you would be interested in covering during the week
II. Next week will be our first Movie Night
A vote was taken and the movie is....CLOCKWORK ORANGE
(Dr. Klotz will supply popcorn!!)
III. Elections were held

September 25, 2001

I. Discussed Mental Health Awareness Week
The date was set for the week of November 5th - 9th.
Will be sponsored by Psych Club and Psi Chi
Suggested topics:
  • Post Traumatic Stress and Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Dream Interpretation and Pop Psych
  • Study Skills and Stress Management
  • Personality
  • Sports Psychology
Fundraisers last year included: stress balls, stress relief basket
Last year's week included: speakers, evening events, information pamphlets
II. Fall Open House- October 20th
Dr. Klotz needs 3 or more people:
Job consists of answering questions that high school seniors have about SU and the psych department.
III. Movie Night- CLOCKWORK ORANGE
~If anyone would like to participate in Fall Open House please contact Dr. Klotz by next week's meeting.
Also, if anyone has any additional topics for Mental Health Awareness Week please bring your ideas to Tuesday's meeting.

  • Study Skills and Stress Management
*SPEDA will be participating on the day of eating disorders
To do list:
  • reserve tables
  • decorate bulletin board for advertisement
  • make stress balls and stress basket
  • make posters for publicity
  • collect info for each day (speakers, pamphlets, etc)
*If anyone would like to sign up for any of the topics please email Samantha.
II. Activity: Get Well Cards
We made get well cards for Dr. Martin's daughter, Rachel.
*If anyone wants to make a card there are supplies in the psych lounge.
Thank you to everyone that made cards.

*The movie ideas for Halloween are: H2O, First Nightmare on Elm Street, Candyman. We will be voting next week.

I. Discussed Mental Health Awareness Week
Things that need to be done:
  • reserve tables
  • next meeting: pick days for topics
  • stuff mailboxes the Friday before
  • Amanda will be picking up the stuff for the stress basket
*The committee heads will be contacting people for committee meetings.
Please start collecting information for your topic.
II. Activity: Psych Feud.
It ended in a "tie". Good job everyone!
III. Dates to remember:

Amanda made the stress basket.
The stress balls are $0.25 each and the tickets for the basket are $0.50 each.

I. Elections
Vice President - April Thomas
--- Duties~ work with President, contact speakers and places we want to visit
PR/Historian- Amanda Long
--- Duties~ publicity for Psych Club events (movie night, speakers, Grad school info sessions, etc.); take pictures and be creative!
II. Constitution
The officers will be modifying the current Psychology Club Constitution and next week it will be sent via email for voting.
Must have 2/3 vote to pass!
III. Membership
We are currently updating the list of members and people that would like to receive the minutes.
IV. Treasury Budget Report
The proposed budget includes $150-EPA, $50-activities, $50-programming
V. Events
Prison Tour is being scheduled.
Danville Tour will be on March 15, 2002 at 4:30 pm. (departure time- 3:30)
VI. Future Dates
Feb. 5- Valentine's Day Wall Decorating and Food !!
Feb. 12-Valentine's Day Movie ! (possibly Momento)
April 6- Open House for Accepted Students

A. the next meeting will be March 12th, we will be doing wall decorations for St. Patty's Day along with other fun meeting stuff.
V. There was also a new idea to make psych club greeting cards.

-was lots of fun, speakers, panels, etc.
-next year: Baltimore
-Bamford presented and gave us some info on what it was like. She brought her cute kitten to the meeting tonight !
II. Next Week: Andy Dunlap is going to teach and do hypnosis!

III. T-shirts: need to know sizes for those ordering, the shirts will be gray with black lettering

- SU counselor
- working for over 6 years
- hypnosis: once in a while it is used in counseling, Mr. Dunlap is not a licensed hypnotherapist (he does not do therapy under hypnosis), used for basic relaxation, guided imagery, pain management, talk therapy, behavioral therapy anxiety (phobias), repressed memories
  • Two types: stage and clinical
  • can't be hypnotized without will, can remember, won't do things you would not regularly do
  • some are more easily hypnotized; better the eye roll the easier to be hypnotized
  • current research is being done on the brain waves of rats
  • vocabulary: autohypnosis, dissociation, transratification
  • quarter drop: when quarter drops you are in a trance
IV. Activity: Hypnosis
- everyone attempted to be hypnotized after we all made pendulums; we all practiced our eye rolls to see if they were correct after being hypnotized
- during hypnosis some experienced eye twitching, random eye movement, complete relaxation, sense of smell (according to reading), movement (according to reading)
- Everyone felt something ! Different ! Relaxed ! Smiling !
