WQSU (The Pulse), the radio voice of Susquehanna University, is operated by the staff, students and faculty of S.U. as well as community volunteers. Developed as a non-profit, educational facility, the station is run under the supervision of the Department of Communications and Theatre.
Located at 88.9 megahertz, our 12,000-watt stereo station can be heard at a 70-mile radius. WQSU serves approximately one-third of the state of Pennsylvania with a wide variety of modern rock, as well as specialty shows, including blues, country, bluegrass, reggae, loud/metal, and electronic music. You'll also hear the occasional Susquehanna University men's and women's sporting events live, and regularly scheduled Associated Press news 365 days a year. The Pulse is the 3rd most powerful college radio station and the 10th most powerful non-commercial station out of 104 licensed in Pennsylvania. Funds from the CHRISTOPHER D. ROOKE ’82 ENDOWMENT FOR BROADCASTING help with WQSU-FM’s operating expenses, including programming and equipment.
The operation of WQSU-FM serves two separate and distinct purposes. The first is mandated by the Federal Communications Commission, and that is to serve the public interest. The second is to serve Susquehanna University in its educational mission by training students in various forms of broadcasting principles and operations, and to serve as a media outlet of Susquehanna University.
