Web Publishing Policy - Web Projects

The following policy statements are in addition to the base policy statements. University web projects are divided into two categories:

  • Core Web Projects meet the following criteria:
    • the work will involve a page on the first or second level of the University Web site
    • the project will not only benefit one unit, but will benefit the entire campus
    • a database connection and/or server-side scripting or execution will involve access to a University primary source
    • the work will be central to the daily operation of the University Web site

Projects meeting any one of these defining factors require the approval and placement of the project on the core web project list prior to the start of development. Requests are to be submitted to the chairperson of the web steering committee and/or the webmaster.

  • Other Projects are defined by the complexity of the technology or programming. Examples would include, but are not exclusive to, database connections, server-side scripting, virtual environments, and data streaming. These projects require the approval of the webmaster.

All web projects as defined above must be coordinated with the webmaster to assure that projects are feasible and that individuals are working on tasks for which they have appropriate skills and experience.

If the project requires the use of University-wide resources or requires placement on the core web project list, a priority for the use of University resources will be assigned by the web steering committee. Priority is based upon:

  • centrality to the mission and objectives of the University
  • dependence on other University projects or priorities
  • potential benefits to the campus community
