| Teacher Certification Checklist
Notice: The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has three certification
programs for students majoring in History or one of the Social Sciences:
Social Studies, Citizenship Education, and Social Science. Students
are STRONGLY ADVISED, though not required, to complete the requirements
for Social Studies or both Citizenship Education and Social Science
in order to be prepared to compete with candidates from other schools
and to meet requirements to teach in other states. History and Political
Science majors MUST be certified in either Social Studies or Citizenship
Education. Certification in Social Science is optional. Sociology
and Psychology majors MUST be certified in Social Science, certification
in Citizenship Education is optional.

A 3.0 Cumulative GPA must be achieved by the fourth semester
and maintained through the Senior year. Formal admission to the
Teaching Program generally occurs during the fourth semester through
application to the Teacher Education Committee.
Courses to be taken before addmission to the Teaching Program include:
6 S.H. in English (or American) Lit and Comp and 6 S.H. in Mathematics.
