Placement and Graduate Study


A Political Science major is the most frequent choice of students who plan to attend law school and pursue a legal career. Others choose graduate school; business careers; employment by national, state, or local governments; journalism; politics; college teaching; and teaching in secondary school systems. A survey of Susquehanna's political science graduates indicates success and high satisfaction with their preparation for a variety of careers.



Graduate Study 

Graduates in Political Science have been admitted to graduate school at among others, American University, NYU, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, the University of Rochester, the University of Pittsburgh and Villanova University. Other graduates have attended law school at, among others, Cornell University, Penn State's Dickinson School of Law, Boston University Georgetown University, the University of North Carolina, Ohio Northern University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Seton Hall, Valparaiso, Western New England, Temple, and Widener School of Law.


Graduate Placement

Some positions held by Political Science graduates include: a representative and senator in the Pennsylvania General Assembly; assistant district attorneys; practicing lawyers; staff assistants in the United States Congress and in the Pennsylvania legislature; research analysts with the Washington, D.C. court system and the U.S. Sentencing Commission; staff positions with the United States Department of Energy and the Office of the Secretary of Defense; a director of research with a defense consulting company; and an analyst with the Center for Security Strategies and Operations.

Other positions held by Political Science graduates have included buyers with department stores; computer systems engineer; probation officer; stock and securities analyst; campaign director for a college fund raising company; college teaching positions; and college admissions counselors.

Other graduates have served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, the Central African Republic, Gabon, and Lithuania.
