Major Requirements Checklist

This checklist outlines the requirements of the Political Science major at Susquehanna. Print a copy of this page and maintain it for your records. Update the fields as you complete courses, and remember to record the number of credits in the appropriate places in the checklist.

The Political Science program is comprehensive yet flexible, and major is required to complete 44 semester hours. 18 hours of that course work must be at the 300 level or higher. To assure breadth of study, each student is required to take 24 semester hours in the following courses: American Govt. and Politics (4 S.H.), Comparative Govt. and Politics (4 S.H.), World Affairs (4 S.H.), Research Process and Data Analysis (4 S.H.), and Senior Seminar (4 S.H.).

To ensure depth of focus in a primary area, 8 semester hours beyond the above required 24 semester hours of courses must be taken in one of the five offered subfields: American Government and Politics, Public Law, Comparative Politics, International Politics and Foreign Policy, or Political Thought. The remaining 12 semester hours of course work are electives, although only 2 semester hours of internship credit can be counted toward the Political Science major.

To receive Department course credit, all courses must be completed with a grade of C- or better, and majors must complete the program with at least a 2.00 GPA in political science courses.

The department's courses are described more thoroughly at the List of Courses page. If you have any questions about coursework or the requirements of the Political Science major, speak with your faculty advisor in the department.
