External Funding
Funding from foundations, corporations and government agencies
is coordinated by the director of Foundation and Government Relations.
Funds are raised for institutional priorities and faculty support.
Examples of assistance the director can provide to faculty for
research projects:
· Discuss project funding strategies
· Focus your ideas to improve chances of success
· Identify funding sources
· Read, edit and proof proposals
· Prepare budgets
· Provide institutional data
· Assemble, copy and mail final proposal
· Prepare reports once a grant has been secured
Note: Timeliness and communication are key to the grant seeking
process. Any faculty member considering external funding should
notify his or her department chair, dean and the director of Foundation
and Government Relations. If assistance from the director is sought,
advanced notice is required.
The director of Foundation and Government Relations also serves
as the point of contact for Sponsored Research functions. The
director is the liaison between faculty and numerous governmental
funding entities such as the National
Science Foundation (NSF), the National
Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), The National Endowment
for the Arts (NEA), and the National
Institutes of Health (NIH). The director is the administrator
for NSF’s FastLane proposal submission process. For more
