Welcome to the Faculty Opportunities webpage. This site will help faculty identify and pursue funding to support professional development, research interests and scholarship. Generally, there are two sources available to SU faculty and staff: internal funding and external funding. Information is also available on this site for faculty who wish to learn more about fellowship opportunities, or conferences and workshops. Support from these sources can be used to promote curriculum and program development, travel, equipment purchases, and more. Faculty interested in securing funding for a project or activity are strongly urged to consult with his/her department chair and the director of Foundation and Government Relations before exploring funding sources.

Guidelines for Faculty Research Budgets in Grant Applications:

• Wages: Wages are based on a 9-month salary and are exclusive of any fringe benefits.

• Fringes: Fringe benefits for faculty are calculated using 28% of wages. Fringes for students are calculated using 7.65% of wages. 

• Indirect: Indirect costs are expressed as 45% of total wages. Fringe benefits are not included in this formula.
