Susquehanna's Department
of Psychology offers an unusual
opportunity for undergraduates to study and learn in an atmosphere
that encourages the independent exploration of topics relating to both
human and animal behavior. The faculty is committed to teaching, to
original research, and to the values of a liberal arts tradition. The
academic program is designed to encourage the sampling of a wide variety
of topics within the discipline while developing related interests in
other areas through the University's Core Curriculum. Graduates have a high
degree of success in gaining admission to the graduate schools of their
choice and in finding desirable professional positions.
Department Mission
The mission of the Department of Psychology is:
- To prepare students
for productive careers in psychology, education, business, the human services,
and associated fields
- To train students to
find, comprehend, evaluate, and communicate scholarly information
- To challenge students
to articulate, refine, and apply personal values in response to the intellectual
and societal problems addressed by psychology
- To teach students to
build the knowledge base of the discipline and apply psychological principles
to practical issues
- To ensure that faculty
achieve and maintain excellence in classroom instruction and collaborative
research with students
- To design and maintain
a rigorous curriculum that reflects the broad and evolving nature of the
discipline
