How many single rooms are available on campus?

There are many singles available on campus. The single rooms located in Liberty Alley, half of the Sassafras Complex and half of West Village are assigned through a group application process (see the Room Lottery Overview for more information on these spaces). If you are interested in a single in the Scholars House, you can apply for one through the Scholars House application. Lastly, singles in Seibert Hall and on University Avenue are given away as part of the Organization stage of the lottery.

In addition to these options, there are also about 80 single rooms available in North Hall, Theta Chi the other half of the Sassafras Complex and West Village that are not attached to any type of group or organizational process or application. They are simply open for any single student to apply for using their own lottery number.

Is there an extra charge to live in a single?

Yes, students will be charged an extra fee each semester of no less than $400.

When do I have to apply by?

Applications are due by 4pm on Monday, March 17, 2007. You will receive an e-mail notification as to whether or not you've received a single.

Can I apply if I'm going to be abroad in the fall?

No, students that will be abroad in the fall can not apply for any on campus housing. The university can not hold a space empty for you while you are away. Thus, if you applied for campus housing and then went abroad in the fall, your space would be filled with another student and that student would not be forced to move when you return in the spring.

Can I apply if I've already applied to be released off campus?

Yes, you may apply even though you've applied to live off campus. However, if you get a single, you're application to live off campus is void because you have now contracted for campus housing.

Can I apply if I've already been assigned housing in a volunteer project or Greek house?

No, if you've already contracted or are in the process of contracting housing, you may not apply for any other type of on campus housing.

Can I apply for Liberty Alley or the group spaces in Sassafras Complex and West Village (the two other types of housing in the Premium Category) and apply for a single through this application?

Yes, many students apply for individual singles of their own as a back up if they and their friends don't get a group space. However, please note that if the group you are applying with wins a space, your application for an individual single room is voided. This is because if you won a single, that would mean that your group would automatically lose their space because they wouldn't have enough people on the application.

If I win a single and accept it, can I change my mind and choose other housing on campus?

No. Once you contract for the space, this is your housing assignment for next year.
