What are my options?

You have several options if you find yourself without a roommate for next year.

  • Apply for a single in North Hall, West Village, the Sassafras Complex, Theta Chi, or the Tudor House during the Premium Housing phase of the lottery process.
  • Apply for a space in the Scholars House (almost all rooms are singles) during the Specialty Housing phase of the lottery process.
  • If you aren't able to secure a single or you aren't interested in one:
    • You can complete the attached form. It's kind of like our own little dating service. It asks questions about your living habits and preferences. Once you submit it, we will keep a copy in the Res Life Office so that other students without roommates can look it over. You can also come in and look through the folder yourself to see if there is anyone that you would like to contact.
    • You can attend the Doubles Housing Lottery in April and be placed with another student.

What happens if I don't find a roommate?

If you can't find a roommate, you will need to attend the Double Housing Lottery in April. At the lottery, students without roommates are given instructions on how they may sign up for housing. Eventually, students are asked to place themselves together in rooms that are available.

Before the Doubles Housing Lottery occurs, you should try as many other housing options as possible. Feel free to talk to your RA or contact Residence Life for advice.

Can't I just pay extra to have a double room to myself?

Unfortunately, no. There is not an inexhaustible supply of housing on campus so if we allowed students to occupy a double room by themselves, we would quickly run out of housing for all the students that need it.
