Living On Campus: Designed Triples Application OverviewHelpful Information about Designed Triples
Click Here for the Designed Triple ApplicationWhat is a designed triple?Designed triples are sometimes referred to as a voluntary, permanent or upperclassmen triples. They are larger rooms on campus that are made for three people. If you divide the square footage of a designed triple by three people, you find that each person has approximately the same amount of space that two people living in a double room have, sometimes more. Therefore, these rooms are different than the "overflow triples" that many freshmen live in. They are an attractive option for a group of three friends that want to live together. Where are they? There is 1 designed triple in Aikens Hall (on the 2nd floor, south side) and one in the North Hall for women. Then there are 5 in North Hall that can be for either men or women and two in West Hall that are also non-gender specific. The list of room numbers can be viewed on the attached application. Is the room fee for designed triples the same as doubles or is there a discount?Because the rooms are larger than doubles, there isn't a discount for living there. When do I have to apply by?Applications are due by 4pm on Monday, March 31, 2008. How is it determined who gets the designed triple rooms? We calculate the average lottery number of the three applicants and rank the groups accordingly. Can I apply if I'm going to be abroad in the fall? No, students that will be abroad in the fall can not apply for any on campus housing. The university can not hold a space empty for you while you are away. Thus, if you applied for campus housing and then went abroad in the fall, your space would be filled with another student and that student would not be forced to move when you return in the spring. Can I apply if I've already been released off campus or assigned housing in a volunteer project, Greek house, Liberty Alley, single room, or the Sassafras Complex? No, if you've already contracted or are in the process of contracting housing, you may not apply for any other type of on campus housing. If I win a designed triple and accept it, can I change my mind and choose other housing on campus? No. Once you contract for the space, this is your housing assignment for next year.
