Team History

The Susquehanna University (SU) SIFE team was founded in March of 2002, and since then it has grown into one of the most active and academically rewarding opportunities available at our university.

In January of 2002, three students eager to start a competition service-learning organization within the Sigmund Weis School of Business (SWSB) approached former DeanJames Brock with their idea. He had recently heard about SIFE and was excited to have a SIFE team on campus. Dr. Brock offered full support of their efforts toestablish the SU SIFE team. In March, a small group of approximately 9 students gathered in a lounge in the SWSB and opened their minds to what lay ahead. In their first year, SU SIFE had a profound impact on their extended community through their nine outreach projects. The team was named 2004 Regional Champions and Rookie of the Year. The former qualified us to attend and compete at SIFE’s 2004 National Competition and Exhibition, where we were named a National Rookie of the Year and second runners-up in the opening round of competition.

In 2005, SU SIFE expanded our membership and continued expanding projects to reach our community. The team was again named Regional Champions and advanced to the National Competition for the second year in a row. At the 2005 National SIFE Competition and Exhibition, SU SIFE was named second runner-up in the opening round of competition.

In our third year of competition, SU SIFE continued to prosper. Membership increased to 30 active members and the team successfully completed 13 outreach projects. Winning the title of 2006 Regional Champions in Philadelphia, the team traveled to Kansas City, MO to once again compete at the National Level.

During the 2006-2007 academic year, SU SIFE went from 18 to 50 active members and had an increase in gross media impressions of over 200%. SU SIFE began its first international projects, and completed three. SU SIFE was once again named Regional Champions in Philidelpha and competed in National Competition in Dallas, TX. SU SIFE reached its highest placement to date, and was named first runner up in their league.

In the 2007-2008 academic year, SU SIFE accomplished many of its goals. We once again had a membership increase, and focused on increasing our direct impact. SU SIFE travelled to Philadelphia for regional competition and were named regional champions. National competition took place in Chicago where out team competed once again.

For the 2008-2009 academic year, SIFE has already begun work to sustain our reputation of being a team to watch out for at competitions. Projects have been expanded to reach not only our local community, and SU SIFE is expanding its number of international projects.
