Senior Center Presentation

The Senior Center Presentation Series began in the 2005-2006 year. We began by designing a presentation which explained the risks that identity theft poses to senior citizens. The presentation was complete with a PowerPoint of identity theft do’s and don’ts, as well as various methods for checking your credit report. We traveled to local senior centers and presented the information, giving the seniors forms they could fill out and mail to get their credit report. We also provided them with a brochure highlighting the important parts of the presentation. We ended the presentation with a question and answer session where the seniors shared personal stories about people they knew who had been affected by identity theft. It was obvious that the seniors realized the importance of this topic. Results were measured with pre- and post-tests.

We expanded this project by presenting workshops on the senior center’s financial independence. We suggested ways to promote the center, increase attendance, and develop new fundraisers. Using our ideas, one senior center was able to raise $51 of profit from a raffle of donated items.

In the following years, we have developed new presentations on pertinent topics for the senior citizens of our community, such as educating them on the new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan D.

This year, we hope to further develop and expand our presentations.
