Susquehanna River Basin Commission
The Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) is partnering with
Susquehanna University Science in Motion (SIM) to engage secondary
science students who reside along the branches of the Susquehanna
River in real and meaningful data collection and reporting concerning
water quality. The partnership was initiated by Representative
Russell H. Fairchild, R-85 of Lewisburg; Tom Beauduy,
Deputy Director of the SRBC; Dr. Jan Reichard-Brown, former director
of SIM; and Dr. Courtney Thomas, current director of SIM. Jen
Hoffman, Section Chief of Monitoring and Assessment,
and Kevin McGonigal, Water Quality Program Specialist,
instructed teachers in proper water sampling techniques during
a training workshop at Susquehanna University.
The SRBC has been monitoring sediment and nutrients in the Susquehanna
River Basin for nearly twenty years. During this time, the SRBC
noted a need for more involvement at the local watershed level.
This partnership will give local students the opportunity to meet
this need.
We appreciate the Susquehanna River Basin Commission’s
participation in this partnership!
