Who's Who at Science in Motion

Dr. Chris Janzen

Dr. Chris Janzen
Science in Motion - Susquehanna University Liaison

Dr. Janzen is currently an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Chemistry at Susquehanna University

Following a BA in Chemistry from Hamline University in Minnesota, he obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A & M. Dr. Janzen pursued a post-doctoral Fellowship at NIH before teaching at Susquehanna University. Dr. Janzen has been involved in several outreach programs involving Susquehanna University and the surrounding community.



Dr. Courtney Thomas
Director of Science in Motion

Dr. Thomas splits her time between the Science in Motion program and teaching for the Departments of Biology and Chemistry at Susquehanna University. She earned her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA and a Ph.D. in Genetics from Iowa State University. Dr. Thomas pursued postdoctoral work at Penn. State University funded by Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She taught Genetics at Juniata College before coming to SU. Dr. Thomas is involved in several teacher professional development activities in the area.

 



Mrs. Jaclyn Todd
Science Mobile Educator
Chemistry & Physics

Ms. Todd earned her B.S. in Physics at The College of New Jersey. She holds physical science secondary teaching certification in California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She taught Chemistry, Physics and Honors Physics at Cinnaminson High School in New Jersey before joining Science in Motion.

 

Mr. Michael McDevitt
Equipment Manager

Mr. McDevitt works in a part-time capacity as the new equipment manager for Science in Motion. He is a High School Chemistry teacher at Danville Area High School. His responsibilites at SIM include the initial set-up, maintenance, in-house repair and long-term storage of the scientific equipment and instrumentation. Also, ordering and replacing expendable items as needed and keeping an accurate inventory of all equipment.

 

Ms. Madge Schworer
Science Mobile Educator - Biology

Ms. Schworer has a BS from Juniata College and an MS from Penn State. She had been working in the Lewisburg School District as a substitute teacher and special education teacher's aide for the last five years. She has decided to make a career change to work with us here at Science in Motion.

   

Mr. Greg Stout
Science Mobile Educator - Water Quality

Mr. Stout, a graduate of Shikellamy High School, has a degree in Biology from Messiah College in Grantham, PA. Before joining Science in Motion, he worked in the food industry for 28 years gathering expertise in Microbiology and Chemistry. Mr. Stout has extensive experience with water testing and is currently pursuing teaching certification.



 


Mrs. Melanie Rohrbach
Science in Motion Secretary

Melanie Rohrbach is a graduate of Shikellamy High School. Before coming to Science in Motion, she worked seventeen years at Geisinger Medical Center and brings a multitude of experience to our program. Melanie is a native of the Sunbury area and appreciates the opportunity to improve the education of the students in the Susquehanna Valley.
