Meet Katherine Giauque

Class of ’07; Majoring in Sociology with an Anthropology Minor

What originally interested you in Sociology?

Dr. Hill was my advisor, so she naturally suggested some anthropology and sociology classes. I really enjoyed them, especially because my high school did not offer classes in either subject, so everything was completely new and exciting to me.

What do you like about Sociology?

I love anthropology and sociology because I enjoy learning about other people and cultures that are different from my own; the options are endless.

Favorite out-of-classroom experience?

Sociology and Anthropology are great because everything I learn can be applied outside of the classroom. I love to travel so applying what I’ve been taught in class has allowed me to have experiences that would not be possible without this background. My favorite out of classroom experience so far has been being studying abroad and keeping an open mind toward a culture so different from the one I know.

Career Plans?

My future is a little hazy right now, but still pending are graduate school, a job, or the Peace Corps.
