BARTOSIC, NASH NAMED THIRD-TEAM ALL-SOUTH REGION
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Two Susquehanna University football players have been selected to the Football Gazette All-South Region team, as voted on by a panel of sports information directors from the region. Sophomore split end Mark Bartosic and junior defensive back Antonio Nash were third-team selections and were among 18 players representing six Middle Atlantic Conference schools on the three teams. First-team selections qualify for the national ballot, which will be announced during the week of December 10. The Crusaders finished with a 4-6 overall record (4-5 MAC) under 12th-year head coach Steve Briggs. Bartosic (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) set Susquehanna single-season records with 72 catches and 1,190 yards during the 2001 season, and caught 13 touchdown passes to rank second in the MAC in all three categories. He had eight games of at least 100 yards receiving and caught at least one touchdown pass in nine of 10 games this season. After just two seasons, Bartosic is Susquehanna’s career leader in receptions (123), yards (2,218) and touchdowns (28) and he has caught a touchdown pass in 18 of 20 career games. Nash (Washington, DC/Springbrook, MD H.S.) is a three-time member of the All-South team, having earned first-team honors in 1999 and second-team recognition in 2000. He is tied for third in school history with 19 interceptions after leading the team with six this season, and finished second on the team with 76 tackles (53 solo). Widener wide receiver Michael Coleman was named the Offensive Player of the Year while King’s defensive end Steven Wilson was chosen the Defensive Player of the Year.
