SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University junior strong safety Dennis Kodack has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 29, the MAC announced Sunday.
Junior quarterback Mike Bowman was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll after the Crusaders posted their first victory of the 2001 season at Albright by a 24-23 score on Saturday.
Kodack (Paxinos, PA/Shamokin H.S.) blocked the potential game-tying extra point with 24 seconds remaining to cap an afternoon in which he finished with 10 tackles (nine solo) and a sack while forcing two fumbles (one of which he recovered). The MAC's second-leading punter with a 37.1 yard average, Kodack punted six times and averaged 39.8 yards in blustery conditions.
Bowman (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) completed 21-of-38 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Mark Bartosic on a pair of scores and hitting Jon Dvorshock with the game-winning 24-yard touchdown pass with 6:27 left. With his three touchdowns, Bowman became Susquehanna's career leader in touchdown passes with 40, while his 300-yard afternoon is the third of his career and the 11th in school history.
The Crusaders (1-3 overall, 1-2 MAC) will battle 5th-ranked Widener (4-0, 4-0) on Saturday at Lopardo Stadium as part of Homecoming Weekend at Susquehanna.
