Bartosic Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week

SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University junior split end Mark Bartosic is this week’s recipient of the team’s Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.

Bartosic (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) set season highs with nine catches, 155 yards and two touchdowns as the Crusaders defeated Albright 40-35 on Saturday afternoon. Bartosic hauled in a 23-yard scoring catch in the second quarter, then after Albright trimmed a 34-7 deficit to 34-28 in the fourth quarter, he converted a short pass on third-and-10 into a 73-yard touchdown that gave Susquehanna a 40-28 lead with 5:31 to play.

Bartosic, who extended his streak of consecutive games with a catch to 24, surpassed the 100-yard mark for the 16th time in his career. He has caught at least one touchdown pass in 20 of 24 games at Susquehanna and a total of 32 in his career.

Through four games this season, Bartosic leads the team and ranks fifth in the MAC with 22 catches for 349 yards and four touchdowns for the Crusaders (2-2 overall, 2-1 MAC).

The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Bartosic to the charity of his choice. Now in their sixth year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $5,000 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players.

The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber, who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.

Bartosic will be the guest speaker at Friday’s Quarterback Club luncheon, which begins at noon in the Shearer-Weber Dining Room in the Degenstein Campus Center. He will also be the guest on the Coach’s Corner Show, which can be heard each Saturday beginning 30 minutes before kickoff.
