Bartosic Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University junior split end Mark Bartosic is this week’s recipient of the team’s Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam. It is the third time this season that Bartosic has won or shared the award this season. Bartosic (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) made a game-high nine catches for 106 yards in the Crusaders’ 23-6 loss to Moravian on Saturday afternoon at Lopardo Stadium. The 106 yards marked the 20th time in 29 career games that Bartosic has surpassed 100 yards in a game, while his nine catches increased his career total to a school-record 191. The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Bartosic to the charity of his choice. Now in their sixth year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $5,400 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players. The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber, who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season. Bartosic will be the guest speaker at Friday’s Quarterback Club luncheon, which begins at noon in the Shearer-Weber Dining Room in the Degenstein Campus Center. He will also be the guest on the Coach’s Corner Show, which can be heard each Saturday beginning 30 minutes before kickoff. The Crusaders (4-5 overall, 4-4 MAC) close the 2002 season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Lebanon Valley (1-8 overall, 1-7 MAC).
