Bartosic Named Third-Team All-American

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University junior split end Mark Bartosic has been named to the 25th annual Hewlett-Packard Division III All-America Football Team, as voted upon by a panel of 29 sports information directors and announced Wednesday.

Bartosic (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) was a third-team selection after earning Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors following his third consecutive record-breaking season at Susquehanna, which finished 5-5 overall and 5-4 in the MAC under 13th-year head coach Steve Briggs.

During the 2002 campaign, Bartosic led the MAC in receptions (74), yards (1,202) and touchdowns (14) to become the first Crusader to earn conference Player of the Year honors since Matt Wichlinski in 1998.

His 74 receptions and 1,202 yards broke his own school records established during the 2001 season, when he made 72 catches for 1,190 yards. The highlight of his season was his performance in the Crusaders' 52-35 loss at Widener on October 12, when Bartosic set program single-game records with 15 catches for 261 yards and five touchdowns.

A three-time MAC first-team All-Star, Bartosic has established school records with 197 catches, 3,420 yards, 42 receiving touchdowns and 270 points during his first three seasons at Susquehanna.

The ballot included 377 players representing 147 of the 228 NCAA Division III (non-scholarship) football-playing institutions. Teams with two or fewer losses were allowed five nominations; teams .500 or better could nominate up to three players; and schools finishing below .500 were allotted two nominations.

Voters made first-, second-, and third-team selections with candidates receiving points on a 25-15-10 scale. In addition to the top three teams, players who received 100 or more points earned honorable mention status.
