Bartosic, Bowman Named Gus Weber Crusader Players of the Week

SELINSGROVE, PA –Susquehanna University junior split end Mark Bartosic and senior quarterback Mike Bowman are this week’s co-recipients of the team’s Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.

Bartosic and Bowman (both Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) each had record-setting afternoons in the Crusaders’ 52-35 loss at Widener on Saturday afternoon.

Bartosic, who earned Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors and was named Division III Tri-Offensive Player of the Week by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette, broke the school single-game records for catches, yards and touchdowns with 15 receptions for 261 yards and a Middle Atlantic Conference record-tying five touchdowns.

Bowman completed a school-record 33 passes and passed for 403 yards and five scores in the loss to Widener. The 403-yard performance was the fourth-highest total in school history and the most ever for a Susquehanna quarterback in a road game, while the 33 completions shattered the mark of 28 that Bowman shared with Ken Eisenhard.

The Golden Corral will donate a check for $50 apiece in the names of Bartosic and Bowman to the charities of their choice. Now in their sixth year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $5,100 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players.

The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber, who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.

Bartosic and Bowman will be the guest speakers at Friday’s Quarterback Club luncheon, which begins at noon in the Shearer-Weber Dining Room in the Degenstein Campus Center. They will also be the guests on the Coach’s Corner Show, which can be heard each Saturday beginning 30 minutes before kickoff.

Susquehanna will host FDU-Florham (2-3 overall, 2-3 MAC) on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the first on-campus night football game in program history.
