Nadler Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week

SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University senior defensive back/kicker Andy Nadler is this season’s final recipient of the team’s Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.

Nadler (Westport, CT/Staples H.S.) became the first Susquehanna player since Frank Hanlon in 2000 to record three sacks in a game as part of a seven-tackle performance in the Crusaders’ 33-28 season-ending victory at Lebanon Valley on Saturday.

Nadler’s first sack of the day forced a fumble that linebacker Tony Treese scooped up and ran 25 yards for a touchdown to give the Crusaders a 20-0 lead. Nadler also booted three extra points on the afternoon to finish his career with a school-record 97 conversions.

The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Nadler to the charity of his choice. Through six years of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $5,600 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players.

The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber, who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.

The Crusaders finished the 2002 season with a 5-5 overall record and in a tie for fifth place in the Middle Atlantic Conference with a 5-4 league mark.
