Field Hockey Ranked Sixth in Division III Poll
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University field hockey team moved up one notch to sixth in the latest STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll, through games of October 27. The Crusaders, who were 15-1 entering Tuesday’s Commonwealth Conference match at second-ranked Messiah, have won a school-record 15 consecutive games since a season-opening 2-1 loss at 11th-ranked McDaniel on August 31. Susquehanna, whose ranking is the highest in program history, has also matched the program record of 15 wins set during the 1999 season when the Crusaders finished 15-4 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. Rowan (14-0) received all 25 first-place votes to maintain their hold on number one, while Messiah (11-3) and Salisbury (13-2) are tied for second. The College of New Jersey (10-2) is fourth followed by SUNY Cortland (13-2) and Susquehanna. In addition to Messiah and Susquehanna, two other Commonwealth Conference schools are in this week’s poll as Lebanon Valley (11-6) slipped from 12th to 13th and Elizabethtown (9-4) dropped from 16th to 19th. Following Tuesday’s match with Messiah, Susquehanna will close the regular season at Moravian on Saturday at 1 p.m.
