Karschner Named Women's Soccer Player of the Week

SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University junior goalkeeper Melissa Karschner has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in women’s soccer for the week ending October 19, the conference announced Monday.

Karschner (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville H.S.) extended the Crusaders’ streak of consecutive shutouts to a program record-tying five straight with a 5-0 win over King’s on Tuesday and a scoreless tie against Moravian on Saturday.

Since allowing a goal in the 56th minute of a 2-1 loss to Wilkes on September 26, Karschner has played 469 straight minutes of shutout soccer in the Crusader goal, posting four solo shutouts and sharing a fifth at Notre Dame (Md.) on October 8.

For the season, Karschner is 6-4-1 in 11 starts with five solo shutouts, a 1.02 goals against average and an .847 save percentage.

The Crusaders (6-6-2 overall, 3-0-1 Commonwealth) will travel to seventh-ranked Messiah (13-0 overall, 3-0 Commonwealth) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
