Bartosic Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University senior split end Mark Bartosic is this season’s first recipient of the team’s Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam. Bartosic (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) made a game-high 10 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown in the Crusaders’ 24-17 season-opening loss to Ursinus at Lopardo Stadium on Saturday night. With his 10 catches, Bartosic moved into fifth place on the Middle Atlantic Conference career receptions list with 207 and climbed into third place on the career receiving yards list with 3,555. In addition, his 12-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter was the 43rd of his career leaving him just one shy of the MAC record of 44 set by Widener’s Michael Coleman from 1998 to 2001. The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Bartosic to the charity of his choice. Through seven years of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $5,700 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players. The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber, who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season. The Crusaders (0-1) travel to Widener in their Middle Atlantic Conference opener on Saturday at 1 p.m.
