Bartosic Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – For the second time this season, Susquehanna University senior split end Mark Bartosic is the team’s Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam. Bartosic (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) caught five passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in the Crusaders’ 48-19 loss at Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon to increase his season totals to 28 receptions for 479 yards and five touchdowns. He also earned Player of the Week honors following the Crusaders' 24-17 loss to Ursinus on September 6 when he caught 10 passes for 135 yards and a score. He leads the MAC and is 15th in Division III with an average of 119.8 yards per game, and is second in the conference and 26th in the nation with an average of 7.0 catches per game. Bartosic also leads the MAC in both kickoff and punt returns, averaging 22.2 yards on four punt returns and 33.0 yards on four kickoff runbacks. Bartosic has climbed to ninth place on the Division III career receiving yards list with 3,899 and needs 78 yards to move into seventh place. Additionally, he is 26th on the NCAA all-divisions yardage list after passing NFL players Sean Morey (Brown, Philadelphia Eagles) and Dedric Ward (Northern Iowa, formerly with Miami Dolphins) last week. The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Bartosic to the charity of his choice. Through seven years of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $5,900 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players. The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber, who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season. The Crusaders (2-2 overall, 2-1 MAC) host Juniata (1-2 overall, 1-1 MAC) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
