Bartosic Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – For the third time this season, Susquehanna University senior split end Mark Bartosic is the team’s Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam. Bartosic (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy H.S.) made a season-high 12 catches for 242 yards and two touchdowns in a 59-20 loss at Wilkes last Saturday. He also earned Player of the Week honors following the Crusaders' 24-17 loss to Ursinus on September 6 when he caught 10 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, and in a 48-19 loss at Delaware Valley on September 27 after making five catches for 117 yards and a score. Bartosic has made 49 catches for 883 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Middle Atlantic Conference in all three categories, and needs just 117 yards to become the first player in NCAA history (all divisions) to reach 1,000 yards for four straight seasons. Nationally, Bartosic leads Division III in receiving yards per game with 147.2, is fifth in catches per game with 8.2, ranks eighth in all-purpose yards per game with 198.5, and is 37th in scoring per game with an average of 9.0 points. In addition, Bartosic leads the MAC in punt returns with an average of 14.6 yards per runback and is third in kickoff returns at 27.0 yards per return. He continues to climb the NCAA Division III and all-divisions receiving lists, now ranking fourth in Division III history and 14th in all divisions with 4,303 career receiving yards. He also ranks 12th in Division III history with 246 catches, just 12 shy of the MAC record of 258 set by Bill Stromberg of Johns Hopkins from 1978-81, and is tied for fifth in all divisions with 50 touchdown catches with Troy Edwards (Louisiana Tech 1996-98) and Jerry Rice (Mississippi Valley State 1981-84). The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Bartosic to the charity of his choice during Friday's Quarterback Club luncheon at noon in the Shearer Weber Dining Room of the Degenstein Campus Center on the Susquehanna campus. Through seven years of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $6,000 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players. The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber, who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season. The Crusaders (3-3 overall, 3-2 MAC) host King’s (5-2 overall, 4-2 MAC) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Lopardo Stadium.
