Eshleman Named First-Team All-Commonwealth in Volleyball

SELINSGROVE, PA – For the third straight season, Susquehanna University middle hitter Kerri Eshleman has been named first-team All-Commonwealth Conference in voting by the league’s eight head coaches, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Eshleman (Landisville, PA/Hempfield H.S.) led the Crusaders with 388 kills and 142 blocks in 97 games this season. Her average of 1.46 blocks per game was tops in the Commonwealth Conference while her average of 4.0 blocks per game ranked second and her .360 hitting percentage was good for third place.

Those numbers helped the Crusaders finish the regular season 15-12 overall and in fourth place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 4-3 league mark under first-year head coach John Tom.

Eshleman became the first Susquehanna player to be named Division III National Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the week ending October 18 after breaking the school career record for kills and earning tournament MVP honors at the Marymount Invitational as the Crusaders defeated a pair of regionally-ranked opponents en route to the championship.

She entered Wednesday’s Commonwealth Conference semifinal match at top-ranked and undefeated Juniata as the school’s career leader in kills (1,199), attacks (2,677) and blocks (452). Eshleman also needed just 12 kills to reach the 400 mark for the second straight season and the second time in program history, following her record 427 kills in 2002.
