Women's Soccer to Host SU Classic
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University women’s soccer team will open its 10th season as a varsity sport this weekend as it hosts the first annual Selinsgrove Ford S.U. Women’s Soccer Classic at the West Soccer Field. The Crusaders will entertain Lycoming, Notre Dame (Maryland) and Ursinus in the two-day event, which kicks off Saturday at noon when Lycoming faces Ursinus and continues at 2:30 as the Crusaders battle Notre Dame. Action concludes Sunday as Lycoming plays Notre Dame at noon and Susquehanna faces Ursinus at 2:30 p.m. Susquehanna is coming off its most successful season in program history in 2002, as the Crusaders finished 8-8-3 overall and qualified for the postseason for the first time with a 4-1-2 record in the Commonwealth Conference. The Crusaders defeated Elizabethtown 2-1 in the conference semifinals before falling to eventual NCAA Division III finalist Messiah 3-0 in the championship game. Admission to the tournament is free of charge both days.
