Kolak, Lunardi Share Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE , PA – Susquehanna University senior offensive lineman Chris Kolak and sophomore punter John Lunardi have been selected as the co-winners of the team's Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.
Playing in a driving rainstorm and muddy conditions, Kolak (Elliotsburg, PA/West Perry) snapped to Lunardi (West Chester, PA/Henderson) , who punted eight times for an average of 35.8 yards per kick in the Crusaders' 6-0 loss at Ursinus on Saturday afternoon.
Lunardi, punting for the first time in his collegiate career, dropped two punts inside the Ursinus 20 and had a long punt of 41 yards on the day, while the Bears averaged 6.2 yards per return.
The Golden Corral will donate a check for $50 each in the names of Kolak and Lunardi to the charity of his choice during Friday's Quarterback Club luncheon at noon in the Apple Community Room in the James W. Garrett Sports Complex.
Now in their 10th year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $8,100 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players.
The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber , who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.
The Crusaders (0-1 overall, 0-0 MAC) host Moravian on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
