Sixth "Battle of the Boot" Set for Friday

SELINSGROVE , PA – The sixth annual "Battle of the Boot" men's soccer match between Lycoming and Susquehanna will be contested on Friday, September 8 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Sassafras Field.

In its short history, the Battle of the Boot has become one of the most-anticipated games on the schedules of both the Warriors and the Crusaders, with Susquehanna holding a 4-1 edge in the series. Last year, the Crusaders picked up a 3-1 victory in Williamsport behind a pair of goals by Nate Snyder.

Susquehanna brings a 1-0-1 record into Friday's tilt while Lycoming played to a 2-2 tie with Penn State Altoona on Sunday afternoon as part of the River Classic Tournament hosted by both the Crusaders and the Warriors. The Crusaders defeated Penn State Altoona 1-0 in two overtimes on Saturday and played to a scoreless draw with Gwynedd-Mercy on Sunday, while the Warriors' schedule game against Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday was cancelled due to rain.

The "Battle of the Boot" is played for a bronzed and mounted soccer shoe and was first contested in 2001, with the Crusaders winning the first two meetings by identical 2-1 scores. After Lycoming won the Boot for the first time with a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory in Williamsport in 2003, the Crusaders regained the trophy in 2004 with a 3-1 win before a standing-room-only crowd in the first night game played at Sassafras Field and held it in 2005 with an identical 3-1 triumph.

All-time, the Crusaders hold a 22-14-3 advantage in the series with the Warriors.
