Golf Denied Fourth Straight Bid to NCAA Division III Championships Despite Winning Seventh Straight MAC Crown

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Even after winning a seventh consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference golf championship, Susquehanna University did not earn a berth in the 2001 NCAA Division III Golf Championships.

Allegheny College, Wesley College and the College of New Jersey received bids from District 2 to the 23-team tournament, which will be held May 6-10 at Persimmon Woods Golf Club in Saint Charles, Missouri.

The Crusaders had appeared in four of the last five and each of the last three NCAA Division III Championships, placing 22nd in 1998, 16th in 1999 and 21st last year.

Susquehanna won the MAC title last weekend at Shawnee Country Club, defeating runner-up Moravian by 44 strokes. Senior Chris Scagliotti won the individual title by shooting 232 over 54 holes to finish first by one stroke.
