The Rewards of SuccessO'Brien Named MAC Player of the Week after Women's Lax Takes Regular-Season Title
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Junior attack Krista O'Brien was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in women's lacrosse, the MAC Office announced Monday. O'Brien (Sykesville, Md./Liberty H.S.) scored four goals and dished out an assist as the Crusaders defeated King's 16-6 last Tuesday to secure the first regular-season conference championship in the program's 11-year history. Her four goals increased her career total to 111, just one shy of the school career record of 112 set by Sandy Jenkin from 1996 to 1999, while her 150 points leaves O'Brien just 12 points from equaling the Susquehanna career record of 162 set from 1997 to 2000 by Dana Makowski. O'Brien leads the team in goals with 33 and is third in the MAC in goals per game at 3.30, while her 40 points also lead the squad and place her fifth in the conference in points per game with 4.00. Following a Monday match at Philadelphia University, the Crusaders (8-3 overall, 6-1 MAC) return home to close out the regular season with three matches at the West Lacrosse Field. Susquehanna will open play in the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs on Wednesday, May with a 4 p.m. home match against the fourth-place finisher in the conference standings in its quest for the program's first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
