Umile Named MAC Player of the Week in Women's Lacrosse

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna sophomore goalkeeper Giulia Umile has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Player of the Week after making a school-record 26 saves in the Crusaders' 6-4 overtime victory at Widener on Saturday.

Umile (Blue Bell, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy), a first-team MAC All-Star as a freshman last season, earned her second career Player of the Week honors after holding the Pioneers to just two goals until the game's final minute. Her seven saves in overtime helped Umile break the single-game school record of 24 saves set in 1995 by Maria Kuwani.

After four games this season, Umile has recorded an 8.78 goals against average and a .600 save percentage for the Crusaders (2-2 overall, 1-0 MAC).

Last season, Umile broke the school records for saves in a season with 190, goals-against average at 7.69, and save percentage at .607. Umile was first in the MAC in both goals-against average and save percentage - ranking 11th in save percentage and 13th in goals-against average in the final NCAA Division III regular season statistics.

The Crusaders are scheduled to host Scranton on Thursday at 4 p.m. on the West Lacrosse Field in the 2001 home opener. Susquehanna has won six consecutive home games and 12 of its last 14 in Selinsgrove over the last two seasons.
