Mann Named Softball First-Team All-Star

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore outfielder Becky Mann has been named a Commonwealth Conference first-team All-Star in softball in voting by the league’s eight head coaches, the conference announced Wednesday.

Senior third baseman Shelly Zimmerman and freshman pitcher Heather Litzebauer were named to the second team after helping the Crusaders to a 21-14-1 overall record and fourth place in the league with an 8-6 mark.

Mann (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport H.S.) led the Crusaders with a .336 batting average and drove in 14 runs while starting 35 games in both the outfield and as the designated player. She also led the team with 37 hits and struck out just once in 110 at-bats.

Zimmerman (Denver, PA/Garden Spot H.S.) started all 36 games at third base and batted .295 with two home runs and 20 runs batted in, leading the team in both homers and RBIs. Zimmerman concludes her Susquehanna career as the program leader in doubles (23), ranked third in hits (120), sixth in runs scored (69) and sixth in runs batted in (58).

Litzebauer (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown South H.S.) set a Susquehanna freshman record with 12 victories (12-6 record) and finished 11th in the conference in earned run average at 1.58. In 124 1/3 innings spanning 22 appearances (14 starts), Litzebauer struck out 63 and issued just 18 walks while holding opponents to a .227 batting average.

The Crusaders qualified for the Commonwealth Conference playoffs for the second straight season and the fourth time in five years in 2002 under second-year head coach Cheri Swineford. Susquehanna used a school-record 11-game winning streak late in the season to secure the program’s seventh consecutive winning season.
