Crusader Men's Tennis Gears Up for MAC Championships
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University men’s tennis team will be in action at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27 in Wilkes-Barre. Two singles players and a pair of doubles teams will be in action as part of a field that includes 27 singles players and 29 doubles teams. First-round action will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and continue throughout the day, with semifinals in both singles and doubles starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday and finals at 2 p.m. Competing in singles for the Crusaders will be senior Rob Logan and sophomore Karl Rosen, with junior Brian Ardire and sophomore Adam Marichak joining sophomores Chris Cassel and Will Seibert in doubles action. Logan (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood H.S.) finished with a 6-6 singles record during the 2002 season, seeing action at each of the first four singles flights. His 23 career singles victories are the 16th-most in Susquehanna history, but he will be looking for his first singles win in three trips to the conference tournament. Rosen (Rocky Hill, NJ/Montgomery H.S.) played exclusively at number-one singles and compiled a 2-10 record during the regular season. Last season, he teamed with Tim Peters in doubles and advanced to the MAC semifinals before losing to eventual champions Aaron McCormick and Anthony Carreras from Drew. Ardire (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey H.S.) and Marichak (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg H.S.) have not played doubles together this season, but both players have seen action with other partners this season. Ardire went 0-5 in doubles play while Marichak finished 3-5 with three different partners. Cassel (Mt. Gretna, PA/Palmyra H.S.) and Seibert (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin H.S.) were the Crusaders’ most successful doubles team this season, compiling a 4-4 record at third flight. Cassel went 4-6 overall in doubles while Seibert finished with a 5-8 record as part of five different teams.
