Umile, Cipoletti Earn Regional All-American Honors

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Two Susquehanna University players have been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Metro Regional All-American Team, the IWLCA has announced.

Junior Giulia Umile was selected as a first-team goalkeeper while senior Liz Cipoletti was picked as a second-team defender. The squad consists of players from colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.

Both Umile and Cipoletti were named Middle Atlantic Conference first-team All-Stars after leading the Crusaders to a 12-5 record and the first MAC championship in program history following an 11-10 overtime win over Drew in the title game on May 4.

Susquehanna also made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs, falling to 10-time champion College of New Jersey 21-4 in the second round.

Umile (Blue Bell, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy) (left), a Metro Regional second-team All-Star last season, becomes the second player in program history to earn first-team honors, following defender Erin Powell last season. Umile played in all 17 games for the Crusaders and compiled an 8.54 goals against average and a .579 save percentage this season, making 201 saves in 1026 minutes of action.

Umile, a three-year MAC first-team All-Star, has a career record of 37-13 with a 7.78 goals against average and a .608 save percentage in 50 games in a Crusader uniform, and holds all of Susquehanna’s single-season and career goalkeeping records.

Cipoletti (Fort Salonga, NY/Northport H.S.) (right) scored eight goals and added two assists for 10 points this season and led the Crusaders with 85 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers. A four-year starter, Cipoletti played in 66 straight games during her career and joined Umile as the only two players to play every minute on the field this year.

Cipoletti finished her Susquehanna career with 36 goals and 29 assists for 65 points, ranking 10th in career points and tying for fourth in assists.
