Matt Deamer Appears in "Faces in the Crowd"

SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University senior track and field standout Matt Deamer is included in the “Faces in the Crowd” feature in the April 21 issue of Sports Illustrated, which hits newsstands this week.

Deamer (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley H.S.) has been recognized for his record-setting javelin throw of 236 feet, 1 ½ inches at the Washington & Lee Invitational on March 15.

His mark not only broke his own school record of 226 feet, 1 inch set at the 2002 Middle Atlantic Conference championships, but ranks second on the all-time Division III performance list and qualified him for the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Stanford University in June.

Deamer, a 2001 All-American in the javelin and now a four-time qualifier for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field championships, has also provisionally qualified for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials to be held in Sacramento from July 9 to 18, 2004.

He will look to defend his MAC title in the javelin at this year’s conference championships at Widener on Saturday, May 3. The NCAA Division III championships will be held at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York from May 22-24.
